swimming after dark

they say you only live once, so live out the fun of all the don't-do-that's
i was feeling obscure, broken petals can lure the heart of any secret
i bought a boat in a jar, it didn't get me too far, the coast guard warned me not to go there
the night was like a monet, disheveled figures of grey, the wine was tasting kind of salty
the moon was like a machine...set on slow speed, I thought the night would last forever

i took a risk and i dove, the fall scared me the most
but i landed with my best form

the black and blue turned to me, the fish came over to see, such a crazy dancer
amber waves tickled me twice, at last i rolled out the dice, it was like being in a movie

vultures raced through the sky, i thought for sure i would die, as sure as any other

the ripples entered my soul, filled the gaps and made me whole, i felt order and mystery
so life is what you will, a withered rose on a sill or the start of an adventure

but you never know if you spark until you're swimming after dark
